Over the last 12 months, there have been 350,600 Google searches for ‘DIY headboard’, with results ranging from plywood boards to vintage screens and upcycled picture frames.
2. DIY fire pit - 302,300 annual Google searches - Professional cost: $1063.75
A fire pit is an ultimate crowd-pleaser and the perfect addition to your garden decor. A garden fire pit can be used for warmth, light, and even cooking.
We found that the average cost for a fire pit and a professional installation is up to £1,350 for a granite or ceramic fire bowl. We also found there were 302,300 Google searches for ‘DIY firepit’ in the last year.
3. DIY shelves - 222,900 Google searches - Professional cost: $678
Having shelving in your home creates stylish storage options, allowing your house to remain clutter-free. Open shelves allow your storage items to become display pieces, rather than storing them in closed cabinets.
Having shelving professionally installed in your home can cost up to £390, which includes the cost to supply and fix 6 x 200mm deep shelves into alcoves. In the last 12 months, there have been 222,900 Google searches for ‘DIY shelves’.

Methodology
We wanted to find the most popular home DIY projects, so we compiled a list of home renovation DIYs and used Google Keyword Planner to find the total number of worldwide Google searches for each DIY over the last 12 months.
We also wanted to find out the professional cost of these home renovations, therefore used Fixr, HomeGuide, HomeWyse and Houszed to source the average professional cost of each renovation, accurate as of May 26th, 2022.
