What Should You Consider When Buying Furniture Online?
Buying furniture online might seem intimidating, but it doesn't need to be! We've highlighted expert advice below to make the process easier. If you take time to consider each point before you buy, you'll be much more likely to love your furniture.
“Always check specifications of the items you are considering,” recommends Allison Kersun, In-House Designer for Modloft. “Make sure the item will fit in the space before ordering, and if you can't find what you need, just call, email, or chat with the company and ask. We have a dedicated channel in our company-wide chat just for product questions from customers. I know we want you to feel confident in your purchase.”
"Review lead times, return policies, and shipping policies,” Kersun continues. “Every website is different and offers different things, so the best thing a consumer can do is review each of these thoroughly, so they have realistic expectations. Just scroll down to the bottom of any homepage, and everything is right there.”
“Always pay close attention to the dimensions,” adds Andra DelMonico, Lead Interior Designer for Trendey. “Images lie, and a sofa or chair that looks perfect online may be too large for a small space in your room. It can help to physically measure out how much space your new piece will take up. The visual representation gives you a realistic impression of how it will work in your space. Find out the return policy before ordering. You don't want to find out that your new furniture doesn't work, and now you have to pay expensive shipping fees to return it."
We also suggest using masking tape to outline the dimensions of the footprint of the furniture you're purchasing on the floor. Testing size with a masking tape outline allows you to see for yourself how large (or small) the piece you're considering will look in your space.
