I Tried (and Loved) GIR’s Ultimate Utensil Bundle

GIR’s Ultimate Utensil Bundle
GIR uses the finest materials on the market to make elevated kitchen tools for everyday use.
The GIR 5-Piece Ultimate Tool Set includes two spatulas, a spoonula, a spoon, and a ladle.
All GIR utensils are made with carefully chosen materials and an uncompromising focus on quality.

When my mother taught me to cook, the silicone spatula was the holy grail of the kitchen. It was the tool that cleaned out every condiment jar and made sure no part of a recipe was left in the pan. Her household motto was "waste not, want not," even if I didn’t always appreciate it, it shaped how I cook forever.

These days, my silicone spatulas are easily one of my most-used utensils. They’re the unsung heroes, multitasking between baking sweets, making bread, cooking soups, or sautéing veggies.

However, I hadn't had great luck with silicone spatulas or any utensils until I received my GIR 5-Piece Ultimate Tool Set. My kitchen will never be the same.

What I Love About GIR

GIR Flip and Spatula

My favorite thing about GIR is the care and attention that went into the brand and product design. GIR stands for "Get It Right" — from the materials to the design, I'd say the brand has done just that.

“I started GIR in 2012 with a drawer full of lousy spatulas," said founder Samantha Rose. “After breaking one while cooking and seeing the sorry state of the rest, I scoured the internet for alternatives.”

“I wanted a one-piece spatula with a handle as indestructible as the blade. I wanted a spatula that got it right,” she continued. “But I couldn’t find anything like what I was looking for. So, I carved a mold, made a silicone prototype, and started calling factories.”

It took a lot of work and time spent finding the best materials, but Samantha soon launched a successful Kickstarter for the GIR Ultimate Spatula. The brand has since expanded to over 50 equally splurge-worthy products, and is now a part of the Pattern Brands family.

The Materials

While searching for the best materials for GIR’s Silicone Spatula, Samantha Rose worked with a NASA rocket scientist who had helped pioneer research into silicone during the '80s. She wanted to find the safest and most durable material for her products and having a rocket scientist’s expertise certainly helped.

All GIR kitchen tools and accessories are made from platinum-cured, pharmaceutical-grade silicone. The premium silicone is hypoallergenic, BPA-free, and BPS-free, and it can stand up to repeated use in the kitchen. The best part? It will never melt when left in a hot pan.

In Samantha's words, GIR has "geeked out" on its products, and it shows. I spend days looking into the best products and materials before buying something new, and I appreciate it when a brand does the same thing before they make a product.

How GIR Compares

  • Silicone Spatula: GIR’s Silicone Spatula is sturdier and more durable than others I've used. It's made with heat-resistant silicone that's not too flexible but not too firm. And since it’s made from one piece of silicone, the head will never fall off or collect grime.
  • Handles: Each utensil from GIR’s 5-Piece Ultimate Tool Set has a comfortable, grippy handle that feels better in my palm than the other utensils I own. Plus, the handles feature a solid polymer core and seem nearly indestructible.
  • Design: GIR utensils come in a wide range of color options, including fun ones like “Sprinkles” and “Barcelona.” Each design is modern and attractive enough to keep on the countertop, which is more than I can say for similar products I’ve owned.
Pros
  • All GIR products are dishwasher safe and designed to last a lifetime.
  • Each utensil features a single-piece silicone design. As a result, they'll never pull apart or break at the seams, even in an aggressive dishwasher or full-speed stand mixer.
  • The silicone GIR uses is heat-resistant to 500 degrees Fahrenheit, so they’re safe for high-heat stovetop cooking. And you don’t have to worry about melting when left in a hot pan.
  • The silicone material GIR uses won’t absorb colors from food. This proved true when I tested it by leaving my ladle in a pot of simmering spaghetti sauce for an hour.
Cons
  • Returns are only accepted for unopened, unused items within 30 days of delivery.

Test Drive: GIR Ultimate Spatula

GIRs Ultimate Spatula

GIR’s Silicone Spatula is lovingly known as the world’s best-reviewed spatula, and I can see why. This spatula has a similar shape to the silicone spatulas we all know and love, with one-piece silicone construction.

It comes in four sizes: Ultimate, Pro, Mini, and Skinny. Since mine was part of the 5-Piece Ultimate Tool Set, I have the ultimate size — it’s thicker than the Skinny, bigger than the Mini, and smaller than the Pro.

Like all GIR utensils, it’s made using platinum-cured, pharmaceutical-grade silicone, which is BPA-free, BPS-free, and hypoallergenic. It also features a solid polymer core engineered to provide just the right amount of flex.

It's the best spatula I've used. If I could only keep one silicone spatula in my kitchen (I have several), it'd be the GIR Spatula. It's sturdy enough to cook your morning scramble, yet the edges are soft enough to get into corners. But what I really love is that it’s dishwasher-safe, super easy to clean, and I never have to worry about the head coming off.

The GIR Silicone Spatula shines on nonstick surfaces, but I also used this spatula with my stainless-steel skillet. It's genuinely one of my most versatile tools, so no matter where you fall on the nonstick vs. stainless steel debate, it’ll be a good match.

Test Drive: GIR 5-Piece Ultimate Tool Set

GIR 5-Piece Ultimate Tool Set

The GIR 5-Piece Ultimate Tool Set includes the essentials for cooking with nonstick or ceramic-coated pans. Since I already gushed about the Spatula above, I’ll give you my thoughts on all the other pieces in the set. (Spoiler Alert: I love them all!)

The GIR 5-Piece Ultimate Tool Set includes:

  • Ultimate Spatula (reviewed above)
  • Ultimate Flip
  • Ultimate Spoon
  • Ultimate Spoonula
  • Ultimate Ladle

Each piece is made from 100% platinum-cured, pharmaceutical-grade silicone with a solid polymer core. The silicone is hypoallergenic, BPA-free, and BPS-free, and the polymer core is designed to provide just the right amount of flex.

The Ultimate Flip

The Flip quickly took the spot of my favorite turner in the kitchen, and it's the perfect size to give me dexterity and control in the skillet. The spatula head is somewhat thinner and smaller than my other turners, and while some reviews note this as a negative, I wouldn’t change a thing.

The edges of the Flip are also thinner than most turners, so it can easily slide under delicate foods — think crepes, eggs, and fresh-baked cookies — without breaking them.

The Ultimate Spoon

Next up is the Spoon, and this one really impressed me. I've never paid much attention to my serving spoons, but this one stands out. It combines the best elements of a ladle and a scoop with a deep bowl for stirring and enough flex at the edges to get into the corners of pots and pans.

Thanks to GIR’s Spoon, I officially retired my old serving spoon, which had melted marks on the handle and stains from tomatoes.

The Ultimate Spoonula

I like the Spoonula almost as much as I like the GIR Spatula. It’s part spoon, part spatula, making it a super-versatile utensil. It can scoop and serve dishes, scrape bowls, and mix recipes, and it’s the perfect taste-testing utensil.

The Ultimate Ladle

Finally, we have my favorite piece of the set, the Ladle. This beautiful ladle instantly replaced my old one, and it might just be my soulmate. It features a large, sturdy bowl with measurement lines and a thin, soft edge that was flexible enough to empty corners of my ceramic Dutch oven.

The best part of this ladle is the precision pouring edge, which didn’t spill a drop when I used it to transfer ramen broth to my bowl.

The Whole 5-Piece Ultimate Tool Set

Each utensil from GIR's 5-Piece Set became a favorite in my kitchen, and that's saying something! Until GIR, I hadn't found a utensil brand that excited me.

Sure, I’d seen a few high-quality sets, but they’ve all been out of my price range and still had questionable reviews. Whereas GIR prices their utensils affordably, has top-grade quality, and consistently receives rave reviews from customers.

Needless to say, there’s definitely a reason that the GIR Ultimate Set took the top spot in our roundup of the best kitchen utensil sets for every kitchen.  If you're looking for small kitchen accessories to level up your home cooking, you need this set.

Conclusion: I’m Impressed

After getting to know the GIR 5-Piece Ultimate Tool Set, GIR has become one of my favorite cookware brands. If you're outfitting a new kitchen or just fed up with the low-quality utensils cluttering up your drawer, it is an excellent solution. A spatula set would also be a perfect housewarming gift or Christmas present to accompany a set of nonstick pans.

I have to say that Samantha Rose really did get it right with GIR, and I would recommend the brand to other home cooks. Soon, I plan to expand my set to include everything I’m missing from the 10-Piece Best Sellers Set, a Mini Spatula, and probably a few Suction Lids.
