A Customizable Mat That Adds the Pop of Color Your Home’s Been Missing

Ordering Your Tile Mat

The Tile Mat is a flexible, vinyl-like mat that has an unlimited number of uses, but typically is used as a doormat, bathmat, or catchall mat for one’s kitchen. It comes in two shapes, rectangular or halfmoon, with a variety of tile colors that can be purchased separately. 

Shoppers can choose between two sizes and a few different colors for the rectangular Tile Mat. Available for $75, the standard size is 18” x 30” and can be purchased in black, white, or clay. The large rectangular mat is available for $100 at 24” x 36”, and comes in black and white.

On the other hand, the Halfmoon Tile Mat, also $100, comes in one size: 36” x 24”, and is available in black and white as well. 

Each tile mat comes with 150 neutral colored silicone tiles. Tile Set Bundles can be purchased for an added $30 or $40, depending on the number of colors that come in the bundle. 

For those that want to choose their own color scheme, customers are also able to select from 25 different tile colors for $12 each. 

I went for the standard size rectangular tile mat in white with the “Fresh” Tile Set Bundle colorway, specifically because I wanted to use the Tile Mat in my small kitchen, and because the pastel colors in the Tile Set Bundle reminded me of spring! 

When the mat first arrived, I was ready to start playing around with designs, but quickly discovered I needed some inspiration. I had read on Letterfolk’s website that there was a Tile Mat Design Tool, where you can plan out your designs before creating them, as well as the much-needed Tile Mat Inspiration page. 

Both of these tools helped me out a lot! I wanted to emphasize the creative components of both the product and my home, and the examples on Letterfolk’s inspiration page gave me some ideas as to what’s possible.

I used one of the designs I found on the inspiration page, but swapped out the colors the designer used for the ones I already had. I also added a yellow border with my third color, something I’d seen other customers do on the Inspiration page.

Living with the Tile Mat

My first thought after unboxing the Tile Mat is that the experience is as intuitive as I’d hoped– the mat is easily unrolled from its box, and each color is separated in a cute drawstring bag (an element I particularly liked, because it felt like something I could easily reuse). Snapping the tiles on and off the mat is easy, just how I had imagined it would be.

The material of the mat itself is heavy, meaning that it grips the floor and doesn’t slide around. I purposely bought the mat to use in my kitchen, as I often drip liquids like coffee, olive oil, or salad dressing on the long journey from my prep surface to the sink! 

Thus far, the mat has been easy to clean, just as I’d hoped. A simple swipe with my regular cleaning spray and a paper towel seems to work. I was pleased to discover that the way the tiles fit together doesn’t create any additional hard-to-reach gaps. The tiles can also be cleaned in the dishwasher — the mesh bag they come in is great for storage and doubles up as a wash bag you can throw in the dishwasher when you want to clean your tiles.

Most importantly, the tough vinyl-like material of the mat is resistant to cat scratches, which makes me feel like it’s going to last quite a while in my home.
