Meet the experts
At Living Cozy, we produce our content alongside interior design and home decor experts. In this guide, you’ll advice from:
"Loveseat" is really just another name for a two-seater sofa. Loveseats typically range from 60-75 inches in length, allowing them to fit a wide variety of spaces.
According to Karen Rohr, interior designer at Mackenzie Collier Interiors, "The only technical difference between a sofa and a loveseat is the size, but everything else could be the same. Loveseats make a chic addition to any sized room since they can stand alone or be paired with another sofa to provide a dynamic seating area."
Loveseats are also incredibly versatile, ranging from casual futons ideal for small studio apartments to elegant loveseats that elevate a formal living room. Phantila Phataraprasit, a co-founder of Sabai, loves them for that reason: "Loveseats are incredibly adaptable given their size—you can use them in entryway spaces, to compliment a larger sofa in a living room, or in a kids' room," she told Living Cozy.
This loveseat is an excellent option for elevating small spaces in style, featuring a modular design with clean lines and an airy silhouette. You can choose from various upholstery styles and colors, including performance fabrics and durable leathers, and punctuate your look with one of three leg finishes. The loveseat also comes with optional matching add-ons, like an ottoman and throw pillows, so it's easy to create just the right look for your aesthetic.
"Its cushions are made from high-grade foam and fiber and which creates a medium seat firmness — it's not quite cloud-like, but at the same time, it's also not too firm," says our reviewer Matthew Gattozzi.
If customization is important to you, then you'll love this modular loveseat. Not only does it offer several different colors and leg finishes to choose from. Its overstuffed cushions and deep, expansive seats offer a perfect, comfy space to relax. And if you want to elevate this comfy loveseat even further, you can add on a matching ottoman to give your loveseat a pit-like layout.
"The Range is the picture of versatility and a long-lasting, high-quality product," says our reviewer Alexandra Frost. "The Range seating system helps homeowners make the most of any underutilized corner of their home. Thanks to the changeable setup, it prevents having to decide between a loveseat/chaise style and a full three or four-seater couch."

Equal parts luxe and sustainable, this modern style small loveseat comes in your choice of recycled velvet and upcycled poly upholstery, as well as a high-quality FSC-certified wood frame and legs made of domestically sourced maple. The comfy loveseat is also designed to grow with you and your household, thanks to matching sectional extensions that will be available in 2022.
Featuring a durable, kiln-dried hardwood frame, complete with a webbing and spring suspension system, this loveseat is most definitely built to last and incredibly easy to assemble. It also features removable back cushions to make easy work of cleaning and fluffing, as well as your choice of metal legs or mid-century modern-inspired wood legs.
This loveseat's modular design lets you create a variety of sizes and configurations as your needs change and grow. But it's so cute as a two-seater you just might want to keep it as is. The sofa comes in virtually every color of the rainbow, with upholstery options ranging from boucle and chenille to velvet and woven, so you'll have no trouble finding the ideal complement to your interior design.
Featuring a unique minimalist wood frame and powder-coated steel legs, this small loveseat offers plenty of durability and looks great doing it. You can also choose to add upholstery to the frame to match your cushions or rock a bare birch wood frame for added contrast. And thanks to stain-resistant performance fabric that comes in five sophisticated hues, this loveseat is an excellent option for households with pets and little ones.
This modern loveseat's oversized design makes it look and feel much bigger than its cozy footprint. But if you need a bigger footprint, you can easily extend the sofa due to its sleek modular design that can turn it into everything from a long four-seater to an L-shaped six-seater. The loveseat is also highly customizable, featuring a ton of different upholstery styles, including microfiber, faux leather, and vintage velvet, as well as just about any color option you can imagine.
Custom-made in Los Angeles, California, this eco-friendly loveseat features a solid wood frame and comfy 2.0 density-foam cushions for all-day relaxation. The reversible bench-style seat cushion also features button-tufting on one side and tufting pulls on the other so you can find just the right texture for your space.
Whether you want a leather loveseat or you prefer performance fabric or velvet upholstery, you can find it in this adorable offering from Benchmade Modern. The loveseat comes in nearly unlimited colors and fabrics, along with three different leg finishes, making it a breeze to match your aesthetic. You can also pair it with matching sectionals, accent chairs, and chaise loungers for a highly cohesive living room design.
It's no surprise that this soft and inviting loveseat from CB2 is a designer favorite. According to Karen Rohr, "This sofa offers clean lines and rounded edges that are sure to make a gorgeous statement in any room. It's the perfect unique sofa for a set-up in a small living room." With its vintage Italian-inspired curves, this loveseat is sure to make a statement no matter where it lives.
With its sleek, streamlined design, this loveseat is a great fit for a minimalist aesthetic, but it's versatile enough to complement a wide range of looks. According to Karen Rohr, the sofa offers "A classic and timeless look for those wanting something that will withstand the test of time. Its deep seats and comfortable cushions make naps and lounging a no-brainer."
Ariella Duker, founder of Ariella Duker Interiors, raves about this stunning loveseat from CB2: "Tailored and sophisticated! No loose cushions mean no muss, no fuss. This piece would look beautiful in a bedroom by a fireplace with a throw blanket or at the end of a bed. Upholstered in an on-trend nubby and cozy boucle-style fabric, it looks and feels like it was plucked from a Parisian home."

What to Consider When Buying a Loveseat
How Will the Loveseat Be Used in Your Home?
Before investing in a loveseat, it's helpful to consider how you plan to use it to make sure to get a loveseat with the functionality you're after. "For example, if it's for an entryway and meant for people to sit on while putting on their shoes, maybe you don't want something that sinks in too much," advises Phantila Phataraprasit.
Additionally, if you plan to use the loveseat for long movie nights and TV binge sessions, then you might want a reclining loveseat or one with cupholders to maximize your comfort. Essentially, the best loveseat is one that looks great while supporting your unique needs and lifestyle.
What Are the Loveseat's Measurements?
When it comes to finding the right loveseat for your household, a few factors are more important than size. After all, the last thing you want is to fall in love with a gorgeous modern loveseat only to find that it doesn't fit in your space.
Ariella Duker, founder of Ariella Duker Interiors, recommends that you "always look carefully at all the dimensions, including the arm widths! The wider the arms, the less actual space for seating! When purchasing an already small-scale lounge piece, you want to ensure you are getting adequate space for sitting comfortably."
What Fabric Should You Choose?
Fabric is another critical factor impacting your loveseat's look and lifespan. "I always look for performance and/or easy-care fabrics," says Ariella Duker. "There are so many options now that offer some level of stain resistance or washability that you can actually have your cake and eat it too."
Performance upholstery becomes particularly important if you live in a house with pets or kids. Since we all know how many messes little paws and hands love to get themselves into, a performance fabric that resists stains and is easy to wash can make life much easier.
What Rooms Do Loveseats Work Best In?
The true beauty of loveseats is in their versatility compared to a larger sofa. They can work as a focal point in a small apartment or complement other pieces of furniture in larger spaces. Loveseats also work well in various room types that extend well beyond the living room. For instance, Ariella Duker loves them for the bedroom:
"Loveseats are great for bedrooms, either at the end of a bed or perhaps under a wide window paired with an accent table and reading lamp. I work with a lot of young families, so when I specify a loveseat in a primary bedroom, it's often for the kids to have a place to curl up on weekend mornings to read or watch a little tv before the morning routine gets started."
Your child's bedroom or playroom can also benefit from a comfy two-seater. "They are scaled nicely for sharing storytime, gaming, or watching a movie on a rainy day," says Duker.
Basically, a loveseat can add style and functionality to virtually any room in your home, from your home office or bedroom to your entryway or living room. The possibilities are endless!
